Vienna International Airport

Vienna International Airport is Austria’s largest airport, situated 18 km outside the city center. It serves as a major hub for flights to and from destinations across the globe. Vienna Airport is well connected to the public transportation network and can be reached quickly, comfortably, and cost-effective by train or bus.

CAT

The City Airport Train (CAT) is the fastest connection between the airport and downtown Vienna (Wien Mitte), with convenient connections to U3, U4, and the rapid transit railway) and operate regularly, with trains departing from the airport to the city center and vice versa every 30 minutes, running daily from 05:37 to 23:38.

Train

The Railjets operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) provide a direct non-stop connection from Vienna Airport to both Vienna Main Station and Wien Meidling Station.

The Railjets offer frequent service, with trains departing from Vienna Airport to Vienna Main Station (U1) in just 15 minutes, and to Wien Meidling Station (U6) in approximately 30 minutes, running twice an hour.

Travelers with multi-day tickets by Wiener Linien need an additional ticket from the airport to the Vienna city limits.

S7

Rapid transit railway line S7 departs the airport every 30 minutes and stops at the centrally located stations of Wien Mitte and Wien Praterstern. The journey from the airport to Wien Mitte takes 25 minutes, and to Vienna Praterstern approximately half an hour.

Travelers with multi-day tickets of Wiener Linien need an additional ticket from the airport to the Vienna city limits.

Vienna Airport Lines (VAL)

The Vienna Airport Line buses take you directly to Vienna city center, to the Donauzentrum via Messezentrum and Vienna International Centre (VIC)/Austria Center Vienna, or to the Westbahnhof and Vienna Main Station.

You can buy tickets online, directly from the bus driver (cash payment), or from the ticket machines of Vienna Airport Lines at Vienna Airport or Vienna Westbahnhof station. For further information please check their website.

Taxi

Depending on traffic, a taxi ride will take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. It is the most expensive alternative. A taxi costs around 45€ depending on the company and time of day. If you intend to take a taxi to the city, we recommend booking your fare online in advance. Otherwise, there is a taxi stand in front of the arrival hall of Vienna Airport.

Travel by Train

Thanks to Austria’s central location in Europe, traveling to Vienna is not only comfortable but also environmentally friendly, especially when taking the train. Numerous international and national train services guarantee a quick and easy way to get to Vienna from all over Europe.

In Austria, there are two primary train operators: The ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) and the Westbahn (private operator). ÖBB offers a wide range of international and national connections. Westbahn, on the other hand, offers train connections between Innsbruck and Vienna, as well as Munich and Vienna. Please consider that the tickets of each operator are only valid on the respective trains.

Vienna train stations are centrally located and are well connected to the public transport network.

Travel by Car

If you travel by car, you can reach Vienna

• from the north (Bruno) via A5 and S1,
• from the south (Klagenfurt/Graz/Udine) via A2,
• from the south-east (Budapest) via A4,
• from the south-east (Prague) via A5,
• from the west (Munich/Salzburg) via A1.

The entire Vienna metropolitan area is a short-term parking zone, to which the following apply:

Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 22:00 (except public holidays)
